Towards a Cleaner India - Swachh Bharat Campaign

In alignment with the vision of a Clean India, the students and faculty of Dr. Ambedkar Institute of Pharmaceutical Science (DAIPS) undertook a significant initiative as part of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan on 5th June 2022, coinciding with World Environment Day. This year’s campaign focused on waste management, plastic reduction, and community awareness, engaging over 300 participants, including students, faculty, and local residents.
Highlights of the Campaign
1. Massive Clean-Up Drive:
- Cleaning activities covered 6 prominent locations across Rourkela, including parks, public spaces, and marketplaces.
- Volunteers removed approximately 200 kilograms of waste, emphasizing the segregation of biodegradable and non-biodegradable materials.
2. Awareness Programs:
- More than 250 locals attended workshops conducted by DAIPS students on waste segregation, composting, and the harmful effects of plastic pollution.
- Informative posters and banners with messages such as "Say No to Plastic" and "Cleanliness is Next to Godliness" were displayed throughout the campaign.
3. Plastic-Free Movement:
- Over 1,000 cloth bags were distributed to the community, encouraging the shift away from single-use plastics.
- Students conducted a door-to-door campaign, educating residents on alternatives to plastic usage.
4. Tree Plantation Drive:
- A total of 80 saplings were planted in cleaned areas to promote environmental sustainability.
5. Public Pledge Ceremony:
- Participants, including faculty, students, and residents, took a Swachhata Pledge, committing to uphold cleanliness and sustainable practices.
