Swachh Bharat Campaign

Organized by: Dr. Ambedkar Institute of Information Technology and Management Science (DAMITS)
Venue: Rourkela, Odisha

On 10th February 2018, the students and faculty of Dr. Ambedkar Institute of Pharmaceutical Science (DAIPS) took the lead in organizing a Swachh Bharat Campaign, aligning with the national movement for a cleaner and greener India. This initiative brought together over 200 participants, including students, faculty members, and local community members, for a day dedicated to promoting cleanliness and environmental sustainability.


Campaign Activities

  1. Community Clean-Up Drive:

    • Teams of volunteers cleaned public spaces in five different localities around the Rourkela area, covering a radius of 4 kilometers.
    • Special attention was given to removing non-biodegradable waste, such as plastics, from streets and public parks.
  2. Educational Outreach:

    • 150+ local residents attended awareness sessions conducted by DAIPS students on topics such as proper waste disposal, the importance of sanitation, and reducing plastic usage.
    • Flyers and posters with slogans like "Keep It Clean, Keep It Green" and "A Clean India Starts With You" were distributed.
  3. Waste Management Initiative:

    • Over 120 kilograms of waste were collected, sorted, and disposed of responsibly, with biodegradable waste directed towards composting.
    • Demonstrations were conducted to educate the public on the benefits of composting and segregation.
  4. Tree Plantation Activity:

    • As part of the campaign, 50 saplings were planted in and around the cleaned areas to promote greener surroundings.
  5. Cleanliness Pledge:

    • All participants took a pledge to uphold cleanliness, with more than 200 individuals committing to maintain clean and healthy environments in their daily lives.

Impact of the Campaign

  • Cleaner Neighborhoods:
    Public areas in Rourkela saw a significant improvement in cleanliness following the campaign.

  • Increased Awareness:
    Community members gained practical knowledge about waste segregation, composting, and sustainable practices.

  • Community Engagement:
    The campaign fostered a sense of responsibility among participants, especially the youth, to contribute to the Swachh Bharat mission.
