Swachh Bharat Campaign by Our Future Pharma Warriors

Venue: Rourkela, Odisha

The students of Dr. Ambedkar Institute of Pharmaceutical Science (DAIPS) stepped forward as "Our Future Pharma Warriors" to support the national Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. The cleanliness campaign focused on instilling hygiene habits, promoting waste management, and encouraging sustainable practices within the Rourkela community.


Campaign Highlights

  1. Cleanliness Drive:

    • A massive drive led by over 150 Pharma students, cleaning public spaces around 5 key areas near the campus.
    • Priority was given to cleaning parks, school premises, and community gathering spots, covering an area of approximately 3 kilometers.
  2. Workshops on Hygiene & Sanitation:

    • Over 200 local participants, including children and elders, attended interactive workshops on waste segregation, reducing single-use plastics, and personal hygiene.
    • Students demonstrated eco-friendly waste disposal methods and encouraged the use of reusable products.
  3. Waste Collection & Management:

    • 90 kilograms of waste, including plastic, paper, and organic matter, were collected.
    • Non-biodegradable waste was disposed of safely, while composting methods were shared for organic waste.
  4. Educational Awareness Campaigns:

    • Posters, slogans, and pamphlets highlighted the benefits of cleanliness and how it contributes to a healthier society.
    • Students coined slogans like “Be the Change for a Cleaner Range” and “Say No to Plastic, Yes to Fantastic.”
  5. Pledge for Cleanliness:

    • Students, faculty members, and local residents took a cleanliness pledge, with over 250 individuals committing to maintaining a cleaner environment and spreading awareness.

Impact of the Campaign

  • Cleaner Community:
    Public spaces near DAIPS now reflect the efforts of the Pharma Warriors, with garbage-free parks and streets.
    The local community has shown a renewed interest in maintaining cleanliness in their surroundings.

  • Awareness Among Youth:
    Through workshops, the youth of Rourkela gained knowledge about proper sanitation practices and the harmful effects of littering.

  • Commitment to Sustainability:
    The campaign initiated the distribution of 50 reusable bags to replace single-use plastics in the area.
