Mega Tree Plantation Campaign Organized by DAMITS

In a significant effort to contribute to environmental sustainability, Dr. Ambedkar Institute of Medical Science (DAMITS) organized a Mega Tree Plantation Campaign at Jhirpani Village, Rourkela. The event, which took place on 05th July 2023, saw an overwhelming participation of students, faculty, and local community members, all coming together to plant trees and promote environmental awareness.
Program Highlights
Participation:
- The campaign involved over 600 participants, including 500 students, 70 faculty members, and 30 local residents of Jhirpani Village. Everyone worked hand in hand to plant trees and enhance the green cover in the area.
Tree Planting:
- 1,000 saplings of various indigenous and fruit-bearing trees were planted in different parts of the village, including roadways, schools, and public spaces, aiming to not only beautify the area but also improve the local ecosystem.
Collaboration and Support:
- The event was supported by the Rourkela Forest Department, which provided saplings and expert guidance on tree planting techniques. Local environmental NGOs and 50 student volunteers from DAMITS also contributed to the success of the event by assisting with the plantation and spreading awareness about the importance of trees.
Educational Awareness Sessions:
- To supplement the plantation activity, educational workshops were organized on the importance of trees in reducing pollution, improving soil quality, and conserving biodiversity. These sessions were conducted by environmental experts and reached out to more than 400 local villagers.

- By planting 1,000 trees, the campaign contributed significantly to the local environment, improving air quality, reducing soil erosion, and supporting wildlife habitats.

- Through the educational sessions, participants and villagers learned about the vital role that trees play in combating climate change, the importance of regular tree care, and how individuals can take small steps to protect their environment.
Future Plans
Following the success of this event, DAMITS plans to:
- Host annual tree plantation campaigns in collaboration with local communities and government bodies, continuing to plant more trees and expand green spaces in Rourkela and surrounding villages.
- Initiate environmental sustainability programs, including tree maintenance workshops and awareness drives, to ensure the long-term health of the newly planted trees.
- Encourage students to take part in environmental protection initiatives, both within and outside the campus, to promote sustainable living
