Blood Donation Camp at DAIMS & IMITC

Venues: DAIMS Campus & IMITC Campus, Rourkela

In a remarkable display of community spirit and social responsibility, Dr. Ambedkar Institute of Medical Science (DAIMS) and Indira Memorial Industrial Training Centre (IMITC) jointly organized a Blood Donation Camp. This initiative aimed to promote the importance of voluntary blood donation and contribute to the local healthcare needs by encouraging students, faculty, and local residents to participate in saving lives.

Program Highlights

  1. Participation:

    • The event was a huge success, with over 200 donors including 120 students, 50 faculty members, and 30 local residents from both DAIMS and IMITC campuses.

  2. Blood Collected:

    • A total of 160 units of blood were collected, which is estimated to help 480 patients in need of blood for surgeries, medical emergencies, and treatments.

  3. Organization and Support:

    • The event was held in collaboration with Rourkela Blood Bank, which ensured the availability of trained medical professionals, necessary equipment, and a safe environment for blood collection.
    • Over 30 student volunteers from both campuses actively assisted in registration, guiding donors, and managing the event logistics.

  4. Health Screening and Awareness:

    • Donors underwent health screenings to ensure they were fit to donate. Additionally, medical professionals provided insights into the importance of blood donation, shared guidelines for healthy living, and encouraged regular donations.

Impact of the Event

  • Raising Awareness:

    • The camp significantly raised awareness about the critical need for blood donations, especially in emergencies, and educated the participants on how their donations can make a significant impact on saving lives.

  • Supporting Local Healthcare:

    • The blood collected during the camp will directly support local hospitals in Rourkela, providing much-needed blood for surgeries, accidents, and other medical treatments.

  • Encouraging a Culture of Giving:

    • The event not only served as a platform for immediate blood collection but also encouraged a long-term culture of voluntary blood donation, fostering compassion and social responsibility among students, faculty, and the community.
